Yusuf Jr is a guitarist and vocalist, a Kel-Tamasheq artist originally from Agadez and now based in Niamey. He made the guitar his language: ten years of intensive, self-taught practice, learning by ear. His playing draws on many sounds, with Bombino, Abdallah Oumbadougou, Tinariwen, Mark Knopfler and Eric Johnson as his main influences. Under his name, four musicians perform original compositions and the Assouf repertoire of Tinariwen, Abdallah Oumbadougou and Bombino; Azel, co-founded in 2023, is part of this identity. He is also the lead guitarist and vocalist of Etran Finatawa, the renowned mixed Tuareg and Wodaabe group formed in 2004. Holding a two-year degree in management and marketing, he combines artistic sensitivity with a strong sense of project-building. Open to new collaborations, he aims to bring this music to stages around the world.
